supplies, and trade customers, we are expanding our team and seeking a
strong, organised manager to lead our plumbing department in Skibbereen.
Role Overview
We
are looking for an experienced and motivated Plumbing Department
Manager to take ownership of the day-to-day operations of our plumbing
counter. This is not a plumbing installation role — it is a retail trade
counter management position focused on serving trade plumbers,
homeowners, and contractors with the right products, advice, and
service.
You will lead the department, manage stock, improve
merchandising, support our trade customers, and help grow sales across
plumbing, bathrooms, fittings, and consumables.
Key Responsibilities
Customer Service & Sales
Serve trade plumbers, builders, and retail customers at the plumbing counter.
Offer product guidance on fittings, valves, pipes, bathroom items, heating, and general plumbing supplies.
Create a friendly, reliable, and trustworthy customer experience that encourages repeat business.
Department Leadership
Oversee all day-to-day operations of the plumbing department.
Work closely with management to grow the plumbing and bathroom category.
Support the roll-out of TB Plumbing branding and store presentation.
Stock & Merchandising
Maintain correct stock levels, order replenishments, and manage supplier relationships.
Ensure shelves and displays are tidy, priced, and merchandised professionally.
Monitor slow-moving items and recommend improvements to the range.
Administration & Systems
Use our point-of-sale system (Shopify POS) to manage stock, orders, and customer accounts.
Work with management on pricing, margins, and product listings.
Process purchase orders and delivery notes accurately.
Team & Communication
Work alongside the wider Thornhill Brothers team.
Communicate issues early and take ownership of keeping the department running efficiently.
Requirements
Experience in a plumbing merchants, hardware store, trades counter, or DIY retail environment.
Strong knowledge of plumbing fittings, parts, and common trade products (or willingness to learn quickly).
Excellent customer service and communication skills.
Highly organised, reliable, and able to work independently.
Comfortable with stock management and basic computer systems.
Ability to maintain a clean, well-presented shop floor.
